Adaptogenic Chai Blend Recipe

This delightful recipe creates a wonderfully flavorful chai concentrate, which is absolutely perfect for mixing with your favorite type of milk, whether that be creamy dairy or a delicious plant-based alternative.

It results in a soothing, nourishing drink that you can savor and enjoy at any time of day, whether you're looking for a morning pick-me-up or a cozy evening treat.

Chai tea is like a warm embrace in a cup, beautifully blending aromatic spices and comforting flavors into a delightful ritual that gently soothes the soul and warms the heart.

Each sip invites you to pause, reflect, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

Ingredients:

• 4 cups water

• 2 cinnamon sticks

• 6 cardamom pods (crushed)

• 5 whole cloves

• 1 tablespoon dried ginger or 1-2 inches fresh ginger

• 1-2 star anise pods

• 1 teaspoon whole peppercorns

• 1 teaspoon whole allspice berries

• 1/2 vanilla bean (optional, for sweetness)

• 1 tablespoon Burdock Root

• 1 tablespoon Tulsi (Holy Basil)

• 1 teaspoon Eleuthero Root

• 1 tablespoon dried orange peel

• 2 Tbsp loose leaf or 2-3 black tea bags (optional, for a traditional chai flavor)

• 2-3 tablespoons honey or sweetener (optional)

Instructions:

1. Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan.

2. Lower the heat and add the cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves, ginger, star anise, peppercorns, and allspice berries. Simmer for 15-20 minutes to extract all the warming flavors.

3. Add burdock root, Tulsi, and Eleuthero root. Let it simmer for another 10 minutes.

4. In the last 5 minutes of simmering, add the black tea if you want the traditional chai flavor.

5. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove all the spices and herbs.

6. Stir in honey or sweetener while the concentrate is still warm.

7. Store the concentrate in the fridge and mix 1/2 cup of it with 1/2 cup of warm milk (or your favorite plant-based milk) when serving.

Notes:

  • I enjoy my chai a bit more spicy. If you prefer, dial back the ginger

  • Want more adaptogenic goodness?? Add in 1 Tbsp. of ashwagandha root

  • Sometimes, instead of mixing equal parts chai concentrate and milk; I will add more water then just a splash of milk. More of a preference. See what you like!

  • I’ve also added in some brown sugar instead of honey. I thought that was yummy as well!

How to Enjoy It

For a truly cozy morning ritual or a wonderfully relaxing evening wind-down, I absolutely love to gently heat up some creamy almond or smooth oat milk, and then mix it with this delightful chai concentrate for an indulgent treat.

The comforting aroma and warm flavors come together beautifully, creating the perfect beverage to enjoy while snuggled up with a good book or simply unwinding at the end of the day.

As I combine the two, I enjoy watching the rich and aromatic flavors swirl together beautifully in my cup.

Not only is it delicious and comforting, but with every warming sip, you’re also supporting your body with a wonderful blend of herbs that may aid in restoring balance and reduce stress, making it a perfect addition to your self-care routine.
